Rwanda has seen more start-ups in the past ten years than any other time in its history, and is successfully positioning itself as the regional innovation hub, and the results speak for themselves.
Increased number of start-ups is a promising indicator as to achieving the vision of shifting the country into a knowledge based economy, however there remains a major gap in ensuring the sustainability and growth of these strat-ups, which would be solved by access to capital and a skilled labor force.
Digital literacy among Rwandans shot up in the past 10 years fueling the transformation into a knowledge based economy as stated in the Vision 2020 published in 2000. According to the 3rd and 6th Integrated Household Living Conditions Survey (EICV), computer literacy rate for people aged 15 years and above is 15.2% which rose from 5.3% in 2010, and the country aims to achieve 60% digital literacy among adults
before 2025.
