Five Things You Should Know About Your Journey

Updated: Oct 11, 2024

Nothing is scary and depressing like the idea of trying to figure out the course of your life. We long to know where it’s heading and what we are meant to do with it.

Philosophers, spiritual leaders, politicians, and scientists claim to know its purpose, value, and destiny by infusing careers, beliefs, and lifestyles scripts to the hungry, lost, and ignorant masses.

Do you ever wonder why you do what you do? If it was your idea or choice? Or if you would still do it, if it wasn’t about the money? Do you do it to please your peers, parents, society, or yourself?

I know a few people who spent years getting degrees they didn’t like, doing jobs they are not passionate about, and living a lifestyle they hate only because they were given a script of what their life should be. So if you never thought about these questions, start now.

We all have one shot at this life. Live it to your full potential as you please. Don’t do things because everybody is doing them.

Your life is yours and yours alone. And today I want you to start living your life and take your own journey regardless of society’s expectations.

Everyone’s journey should be different since we are individually different. So don’t be afraid to do what fits your DNA, personality, and taste. There is a reason you were created the way you are.

You were not created to follow someone else’s journey or footsteps for the rest of your life. You can learn from others but your purpose in life cannot be like theirs.

Every Journey Is Unique

Every journey is unique for numerous reasons. You never know how long it might take and where it might lead. Every life’s journey is not identical. Every individual has a specific purpose.

We are single beings with different functions and wiring. We have different talents, minds, and bodies. Even people with similar talents can never express them the same way.

There is always something different about each one of us. Some are born poor others rich. Some are born with perfect bodies others are born with disabilities.

Again it’s all these things that make our journeys and each one of us unique. So don’t worry about other people’s journeys. They are not you.

You may be heading in the same direction, walk in the same path, but your experiences will never be the same.

The slogan that says that if so and so did it, so you can do it too is kinda not always true or accurate. This statement is very deceiving.

It insinuates that we can achieve the same kind of life something that is totally not always true.

Our journeys can never produce same results. We can always reach our success but not the same kind of success.

I can name a few examples, like Obama, Mandela, and Oprah Winfrey. All these people played major roles in the black community but not in the same way. Imagine if Obama wanted to be a journalist like Oprah.

There is a reason each one of them became who they became. It is their unique talents, path, and DNA that produced everything we know about them.

There is a reason Mandela had to be imprisoned and later become the first black president in South Africa. Why him?

Regardless of other smart, and hard working people in his party, only him was destined to become the person he became. It was his journey. And only him was meant to walk that road.

Every Journey Is Personal

Our life’s journey is personal. The walk of our life is a personal journey. To accomplish anything in life it is always up to individuals personal motivation and will to learn.

Other people can help but at the end the final decision is up to each individual.

We should never expect people to have same finishing timelines. We should never expect people to have same learning abilities because as different we are genetically so are we when it comes to the way we learn.

Some people learn by visualizing, others by hearing, and others by reading.

Our life’s journey’s process is never meant to be general or common. The end results is always personal. Every journey can be long, short, hard, or easy but the experience is personal.

The interpretation of each journey is personal. We may be going thought the same event but experience it differently. So it’s unwise to try to dictate what people should feel or experience in their own journey.

Carry your cross!

You would never know what it’s like to be in someone else’s shoes. You can’t imagine what other people are going through. You can’t imagine what you would do if you went through what they went through.

You might lose your mind. Let’s stop judging people because we don’t know the magnitude of what they are going through.

Another thing is that our personal and individual senses are not the same. Some of us have high sensitive senses that make each experience personal and different from others.

For example, introverts may not experience events the same way like introverts. Some people tend to be calm or cry while others tend to laugh and smile all the time.

Each individual has a signature way of experiencing events and life in personally. So whatever you might be going through, remember that you might experience it differently.

And it’s alright to feel that way. There is nothing wrong with you. But remember that no one can walk your walk.

Nobody can live your life. Nobody is responsible of your happiness, progress, and learning. It's up to you to put in work, motivate yourself, make plans, and accomplish your own goals.

So stop wasting time waiting for superman or the guardian angel. Let them find you doing something but not depending on them.

Every Journey Is Unpredictable

Another true fact of our life’s journey, is unpredictability. It is made of obstacles, battles, and tragedies. Sometimes it gives us detours, pauses, and circles. And lots of times it is full of surprises and failures.

No matter how hard we try to structure it, plan, and control it, it surely manages to surprise us. Just the moment we think we know where we are going, that’s the moment we realize we have lost the track.

It is like a chameleon. It is full of changing seasons and climates. So learn to go with the flow. What we can do is to try to find a few things in our journey that we can be grateful for.

One big mistake we make or what our ancestors failed to teach us is setting high expectations about life. Life in its nature is not great.

"Don’t wait for near life/death experience to live the kind of life that you want."

It is chaotic but beautiful in a sense. We should cultivate the habit of teaching and reminding us the misfortunes of life.

Parents, tell your children all your struggles and failures. Communicate daily and often about uncertainties of life.

"Don’t wait until you are dying to say what you could have said when you were able. "

Beyond that we should also learn to expect the unthinkable in our lives like losing a loved one, getting fired, divorcing, and so forth. In that way we are protected from being surprised by tragedies for the first time.

I can tell you there is a difference between a person who has been through a lot and the person who never had any kind problem.

The sense of entitlement and complaint are traits of people who never had any life changes.

So keep it in mind that everything can change right now. And when I say right now, I mean now. Economies crumble.

Disasters like tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes have devastated cities to the ground.

So don’t wait for near life/death experience to have fun, to tell the people you love how much you care about them, and to live on the edge doing what only you loves doing without trying to imitate others or please your peers, family, and society in general.

It is your life and only you can live your life.

Every Journey Is Meant To Be

There is a reason you are here now and you have nothing to do with it. You did not plan it or create it. There is a reason you’re who you are. Everything in your life or journey is meant to be and there is nothing you could have done to prevent it.

Every decision you made, every turn you took lead you to this very moment and place. We are not always in control of the steering wheel of our journey even when we think we got it figured it out.

You will never know what is coming tomorrow and until then you will be forced to inherit whatever comes your way.

According to science, we are both products of our nature and nurture. Part of who we are is a sum of everything we went through and what we were exposed to.

A phenomenon we can never escape. Sometimes we learn good things and sometimes we learn bad things. It is a mystery how some of us can choose wisely what to learn and why others can’t.

Another reason our journey is meant to be is our DNA. Our DNA is a blueprint of our abilities and talents.

I can tell you this right now that I have no control on my passion of writing. I did not create in me the ability to create music, melodies, and play instruments.

I remember the first time I held an acoustic guitar. My brother’s best friend showed me just how to hold the keys. He didn’t show me how to combine keys and make a melody. I did that on my own.

I started to write my own songs right away. Now I am not even the best guitar player. Imagine people who invented it.

You see how life can be so amazing? We all have different inborn talents and abilities to create amazing things.

The only frustrating part is that we cannot run away from it. And sometimes it can be a burden to us. Now let’s apply this theory to other aspects of our lives. I hate to say it but your journey is meant to be. Whatever it is now, it is what it is.

If we really knew what to do, we wouldn’t make mistakes and regret them later. We wouldn’t fail and lose a lot of time and resources. All of these things happen for unknown reasons. It’s just life.

Whatever comes your way try to do your best. Sometimes you will know what to do and sometimes you won’t. The good news is that you can always turn things around by learning from what you did.

Every Journey Is Defined By The End

What gives every journey a meaning is how it ends. It never makes sense in the present. Sometimes it doesn’t appear to be good or bad or meaningful until you reach the end or until you are long gone.

You can always repent your sins, return goods and properties you stole, and choose a new different path.

If there is one thing you should worry about is the endgame of your journey. Whatever you are doing or want to achieve in life will be determined by your long term vision.

Whatever you might be doing now will predict the end result of your journey.

"It doesn’t matter how, where, or when you start. What I like about the structure of any journey is its ability to reinvent itself regardless of present facts."

Take time to analyze your actions. If you want to have a better end you need to learn from the past. Study the fall and progress of people who went before you and avoid their path.

It amazes me how a lot of countries still fail to learn and keep on making the same mistakes of lost empires.

What I would do if I was a super power country is to avoid everything that would cause my empire to decline.

Fortunately all super power countries can’t seem to escape the same verdict of their ancestors because of their ignorance and greed.

Another perspective related to the end of our journey is the humble beginning. As Prophet Zechariah said, do not despise humble beginnings.

Every successful person started somewhere low. Sometimes they were ignored but they ended well.

So keep this in mind. The end of your journey or life can turn out right regardless of where or how you begin. Don’t worry about the present.

Don’t lose hope and fear present trials. They are there to bring the best out of you.

Keep on sharpening your craft. Keep on exercising and practicing soon or later your hard work will pay up. You might be holding a revolutionary idea that will change the world.

Just keep on doing what you were created to do no matter what.

History is full of legends with humble beginnings like king David who was once a shepherd. So don’t be afraid to try something regardless of present circumstances or obstacles.

Dream big and see yourself up in the sky because anything is possible in your lifetime. Remember part of our journey is meant to be.

You might be one of individuals who will shock the world as long as you don’t give up.

Just aim to leave a better legacy behind.

See the big picture.

Don’t be seduced by pleasures of here and now.

Be like a wise architect who built his/her house on the rock.

Be like a wise ant that stores food for the coming winter.

Everything will come to fruition when you’re fully prepared to take on the world.
